Breaded Fish Sticks

One aspect of Rainbow’s personality is her absolute conviction that she is always right. Always.

You know how sometimes a young child says a word incorrectly and a family thinks it’s kind of cute so they adopt the word for years to come? Dolittle, for example, used to call McDonalds by the name “Hock-Donalds.” We called the place Hock-Donalds until she was about six. She also used to say “boring” instead of “born” (eg., “remember when I was just boring?”), and Rainbow used to say “arm pips” instead of “pits”. I loved how cute it all was. It’s not so cute when they start arguing their viewpoint on correct terminology however.

Rainbow is currently in French immersion. Recently they have been working on animals in their vocabulary words. We came to a picture similar to this:

“What is this?” I asked.

“Croissant” she replied.

“Poisson” I corrected.

(Hands firmly on hips) “No,” she adamantly stated, “Madame (teacher) says it is ‘croissant‘.”

I, being English, of course am not permitted to have an opinion contrary to the apparently popular vote that the word for fish is ‘croissant,’ despite the fact that the picture sent home did not look like this:

We may just have ‘fish’ sticks for breakfast some day soon.

I also am an English Mom of French immersion kids. It can be interesting… especially when you know the word.

    Have fun with that.
