First Blog Entry

This is my first ever blog entry, and, truth be told, I have no clue where I’m going with it. Maybe it’s the beverage ;-) or maybe it’s the buzz my brain seems to feel after a class these days, but I feel the need to vent (and perhaps re-invent) and a blog seemed the perfect place for a bit of self reflection.

Why is my blog called “Old Blue Socks”? Well… it seemed to fit for a number of reasons:

1st, while not the slightest bit intellectual per se, I quite like reflecting on the 19th century (or is it 18th century?) Blue Stockings. I realize the name eventually became somewhat derogatory (in that age), but bright, educated women gathering together for intellectual discussion at a time when women could hardly get a higher education is inspiring. As someone with a penchant to write, albeit unsuccessfully at this point, that is also quite meaningful to me.

2nd, I’m a student again. And that means I am again placing my wits in the pool with the young ones. As I noted to my prof, I have socks older than most of these people. (You’d have to take the class to follow the reference to the blue ones).

and 3rd, I’m a mom to two little girls (and an angel). And laundry is just one of those things you can be assured of in life. Socks (and the mystery of how they go into the wash in twos and come out in ones) seemed to reflect the more maternal and domestic side of my life.

Too deep?
